Demonstration

In the event of a choking, or any emergency, you should always remain calm.

Being prepared, and knowing how to handle the situation will increase the chance of survival.

Every parent and caregiver should refresh their knowledge of First Aid.    Like fire and disaster drills, the more often you prepare and plan for an emergency, the greater will be your ability to help in any situation.

FIRST AID VIA THE RED CROSS:

STEP 1:

Give up to five back blows: hold the baby face-down along your thigh with their head lower than their bottom. Hit them firmly on their back between the shoulder blades up to five times. If back blows do not dislodge the blockage, move on to step 2..

STEP 3:

Repeat multiple times until object is removed. Regulate airflow by releasing finger from air hole.
